This is a brilliant use of Social Media for JC Penney. It draws you into the story and until the very end you have no idea who sponsored it.  If we lived near a JC Penney I am sure the skipper would be purchasing something lovely and sparkly for me for Christmas…at least, thanks to this brilliant video, he knows what NOT to purchase.

Over the years I have had my hand in a fair share of  April Foolery…but nothing I have witnessed would compare to this list of the Top 100 April Fool’s Day Hoaxes..

These are a few of my list favourites:

#24: Drunk Driving on the Internet….The bill was supposedly numbered 040194 (i.e. 04/01/94), and the contact person was listed as Lirpa Sloof (April Fools backwards).

#35: Big Ben Goes Digital...The BBC reported that Big Ben, in order to keep up with the times, was going to be given a digital readout. The announcement received a huge response from listeners shocked and angered by the proposed change. The BBC Japanese service also announced that the clock hands would be sold to the first four listeners to contact them. One Japanese seaman in the mid-Atlantic immediately radioed in a bid..

#47: Internet Spring Cleaning…OK I am still laughing over this one!  … An email message spread throughout the world announcing that the internet would be shut down for cleaning for twenty-four hours from March 31 until April 2. This cleaning was said to be necessary to clear out the “electronic flotsam and jetsam” that had accumulated in the network. Dead email and inactive ftp, www, and gopher sites would be purged.

#59: Daylight Savings Contest.. beginning with the first day of daylight savings time, contestants would be required to save daylight. Whoever succeeded in saving the most daylight would win. Only pure daylight would be allowed—no dawn or twilight light, though light from cloudy days would be allowed. Moonlight was strictly forbidden.
