Mari Smith the Facebook Marketing expert has been using this one word theme technique for the past 5 years and has done just what she has set out to do. Her passion for what she does and how she does it is evident in this passage from her website, “I’ve found that by also selecting just one word as a theme for my whole year, all manner of new opportunities and experiences show up. On a recent trip to San Diego I visited Seal beach where a controversy is continuing over who has the right to use the beach.  I wonder who has the best interests of the planet and its precious creatures in mind here!

In our home we recycle and compost and are proud that on garbage day we have very little at the curb that will be sent to the local landfill. By using some basic organizing and a bit of creativity we have created a Home Recycling System that works for our family.

We are reducing our carbon footprint, for example…It takes 70% less energy to recycle plastic than it does to make it from raw materials.

In my business I am proud to say that by decluttering in a ethical manner we have reduced our carbon footprint on a community level. Working with clients and tossing what is truly garbage and recycling things that still have a life.

These items are reintroduced back into the community through a Donation program that I spearheaded with the Saint John Boys and Girls Club back in 2005 and since then my clients have diverted several tons of items that would have been sent to the local landfill.

On this day of EARTH  awareness I am asking you what you are doing at home, at work and in your community to be a POSITIVE Steward of the earth.

On the path of self growth there are many layers of beliefs and ways of thinking and being that are peeled away to reveal the true self.

The layers involve elements from the past and present that affect how you move forward into the future you are dreaming of.  One of the layers that hold many people back is disorganization and excess of clutter.

Organization is the foundation of all growth.

This is something that all the great philosophers and spiritual teachers know and live by. In their work the answers are there if you are ready to hear the lesson…when the student is ready the teacher arrives…and yes, without clutter.

In the book Change your Thoughts Change your Life Dr Wayne Dyer interprets the Tao Te Ching. Dr Dyer shares an interpretation that for the rest of the world makes this 5000 year old teaching by Lao-tzu very easy to absorb. In the 77^th verse it says…”when it is surplus, it reduces; when it is deficient, it increases.”  It is asking us to put surpluses back into the world to decrease deficiencies that exist elsewhere.

Think about what you have too much of that you can share.

Is your home overflowing with things that are no longer useful or beautiful to you? Do you have an excess of time in your schedule that you can share in a meaningful way, like volunteering at a local school? Do you have an abundance of love and energy that is ready to be shared?

People who practice Feng Shui, an ancient Chinese system of aesthetics, will tell you that eliminating clutter is the most important first step in bringing peace, serenity and simplicity into your life.

If you want simplicity and peace then you need to create an environment that supports that desire.

By eliminating the things in your life that are no giving you energy but taking it away, you will open up space for things, people and events that will bring great joy and energy.

In his book Harmonic Wealth, author and teacher James Ray asks “what are you surrounding yourself with?” The universe loves order …a chaotic external world is a reflection of a chaotic inner world.

Are you living in a swirl of chaos?

If clutter and disorganization are an outward sign of stuck energy, then now is the time to have a close look at where the chaos shows up in your life. This clutter can show up; in your home as an excess of stuff, in your office as too much paper, schedules that are overflowing and cause great stress, or in relationships that have run their course however you keep hanging on.

By freeing up space in your home, calendar and life you are allowing space to exist. The moments between are the ones that are needed the most, however, they also cause the greatest fear.

In order to receive any more into your life you have to let go of what is no longer serving you.

Spring is here and an optimal time to clean out the nest. Take the next few months to investigate where the clutter and disorganization are showing up and clean out what no longer serves you so you can make space for opportunities and possibilities.

This past week I have been preparing a workshop for a group of administrative assistants and one of the key concepts that will be delivered will be the classic “Important VS  Urgent” quadrants by Stephen Covey. I have been searching to find the best way to convey this concept, to deliver it in a way that will give the attendees a visual reference for this life changing concept…and frankly I get confused on the quadrants myself and I want it to be crystal clear for this awesome group.

I found this information via wikipedia during my research and it made it all clear…

In the book  First Things First it states ….”The principles provide a “true north” and reference when deciding what activities are most important, so that decisions are guided not merely by the “clock” of scheduling but by the “compass” of purpose and values.”

The Compass of purpose and values…that is it.

How many of us are so clear on our Purpose and Values that we can set a compass by it?

I challenge you today to take 30 minutes and write your purpose…yes your purpose…why the heck are you here!

Next make a list of what you value…hmmm…hard one…

Now go and set your compass I bet you can find True North now.
